FIS must become transparent! No other sports organization is so depending on climate change and our measures against it which is why FIS has to become a role model and lead the way in climate action. This could then also pave the way for other major sports organizations to follow.

FIS has presented their sustainability strategy and agreed to all our demands. Now it's time to wait and see if they are implemented as promised.

FIS must become transparent! No other sports organization is so depending on climate change and our measures against it which is why FIS has to become a role model and lead the way in climate action. This could then also pave the way for other major sports organizations to follow.

But from the beginning:

On Sunday, February 12th, Protect Our Winters Ambassador and World Cup skier Julian Schütter delivered an open letter to FIS signed by hundreds of athletes demanding greater action and transparency on climate at the World Champs in Courchevel.

The letter demanded the following:

  • FIS representatives must commit to reaching net zero for all FIS operations and events by 2035 or prior.
  • FIS has to create a sustainability strategy of how to achieve a 50% emissions reduction by 2030, as committed to through the UN Sports for Climate Action framework, and present it to the public before the start of the 2024 season.
  • Full transparency is needed to support FIS‘s role as a much-needed pioneer in climate action.

You can read the letter and the full list of signatories (currently over 500, including the biggest names in the sport, like Mikaela Shiffrin (USA), Aleksander Aamodt Kilde (NOR), Federica Brignone (ITA) along with Olympic cross-country skiing champion Jessie Diggins (USA), and the previous Freeride World Tour champions Arianna Tricomi (ITA) and Xavier de le Rue (FRA) HERE

Since then, this action has grabbed media attention across the globe but only minor changes have been made. We will inform you about further steps very soon here and on social media.

Our sport depends on us!
